Notion is a multi-stage investment fund focused on growth businesses in the Internet-based services sector. We create value by helping companies to accelerate their growth through financial injection combined with deep sector knowledge and experience.

Partners with proven experience

Our partners are all proven entrepreneurs and executives, having founded and built a number of highly successful businesses, and like to add value through close engagement with the companies we invest in.

Ben and Jos White are proven entrepreneurs having founded three companies, and grown them all into market leaders each with revenues in excess of $100M - RBR Networks in 1993, Star Internet in 1998 and MessageLabs in 2000. Stephen Chandler was a director at UBS Investment Bank, advising leading global technology companies on funding and M&A, before joining the brothers at Star in 2000 where he has served as the Chief Financial Officer for both Star and MessageLabs as well as fulfilling other senior leadership roles. Chris Tottman joined Star in 1999 and has served in a number of senior management roles, both within Star and MessageLabs, focused on sales optimisation and people performance. Ian Milbourn is VP Corporate Finance at MessageLabs and has led a number of M&A and financing transactions for the company

Our top priority is to support the entrepreneurs and the management teams of the companies who have selected Notion as their partner. If we can help these companies to be successful, in areas such as having a crystal clear vision, expanding into new markets, developing products that their customers love, hiring great people, establishing a solid financial model and driving sales and marketing programs that really deliver, then we are confident that everything else will follow and our investment will be a successful one.

It’s not just about the money

Notion offers a unique ‘Engagement Program’ to every business we invest in ensuring that we get quickly up to speed with the business and are in a position where we can add the most value moving forwards The Engagement Program means that we get completely immersed in each portfolio company, matching up our partner’s expertise and experience with the corresponding parts of the business, with a view to helping each business accelerate its development and unlock further potential. The Program is tailored to each company depending on their stage of growth, and also their unique challenges and opportunities, and will typically be completed within the first two months following an investment.

Where we like to invest

Notion invests in early to mid-stage companies with a focus on Internet based services with recurring revenue models. This sector is sometimes referred to as Software as a Service (so called ‘SaaS’) or cloud computing and for us relates to any business that uses the power of the Internet to deliver a service on demand and free of any platform, device or location dependence. Our investments span from £250k in an early stage business through to £10m in a mid-size, growth business. Notion may support larger deals in partnership with other funds and our network of high net worth individuals. We are committed to a long-term view and want to develop strong partnerships with our portfolio companies.
